The manifesto of this project is REGULAR/IRREGULAR, about the contrast. The contrast from Granby Street is the REALITY communities are facing and the DREAM they want to realize. The community wants to introduce exotic culture to invigorate the community and attract more immigration to cope with the decaying situation and increasing deralict terraces. Meanwhile, they remain cherish their local culture and are putting efforts into innovation. This contrast involves two groups of people: NATIVE and STRANGER. To this site, one have routine life while another one expect something more interesting and unpredictable. The purpose of this project is to build a culture common to show the identities of both REALITY and DREAM and helps to find a solution to achieve a balance between them. It is expected that contrast is no longer the obstacle but a great opportunity for communication and blending.
Two routes are designed to give visitors a customized journey. For local visitors, they start with local Granby Street Market and terraces. After visiting local art gallery, they can engage in activities with the public. Finally, they are introduced to new art. The route is reverse for public visitors. They come with interest for new art. So, they start from new art gallery and then participate in activities and events. After that, they are introduced to local art and local events. Both routes are the journey from what visitors are familiar with – REGULAR to what they are unfamiliar with – IRREGULAR. The progressive journey is a more acceptable way for the public and local to better understand the other culture.
