The community-led extra care facility is a scheme where fifty self-contained housing units are designed to be a peaceful oasis for the elderly. Balancing between private and public, the project focuses on providing spaces that enhance social interactions but at the time, spaces in which the residents can be safe on their own. The term ‘pocket nature’ became the primary design driver. The incorporation of vegetation and natural features into the scheme can be seen at every turn. Dining, sheltered and shared gardens are the main areas where people can experience the presence of the surrounding lives.
