The Winter Gardens of Waverly Street
A community led extra care housing scheme for 50 elderly people in the Bootle neighbourhood of North Liverpool. The mixed use scheme caters for a range of dependencies; from independent living to dementia care within a non-clinical, domestic setting. Horticulture is embedded throughout, in the provision of outdoor terraces, balcony and winter garden access for each dwelling. Fruit and vegetables can be harvested and sold on site in the grocery store and served in the cooking in the winter garden public bistro. Residents are encouraged to bring their pets from home as walled gardens and a shared owner/ pet grooming salon cater for their needs. Alongside electric car charging stations and organised bus shuttle services, the complex will follow passive and active design principles to achieve net zero carbon status.
