A Media Library for the students of Liverpool

Zivoin Ristic

The Beehive

This scheme combines modern design with the grain of the context to create a realistic yet innovative building. The libraries’ double overhang is inspired by both the Met Breuer and Peckham Library, but also pays homage to the overhanging shop signs. The lightwell towards the back of the building is a feature designed to bring in more natural light, whilst creating a double height space that spans the ground and basement floor. The first and second floors are linked via a curved staircase which is compassed by a void to form a link between the library-focused floors. These floors provide unobstructed views of the Liverpool city centre.
