The preservation of the barracks is fundamental in the new intervention. Therefore, the schedule of accommodation will respectfully surround the barracks’ perimeter. From this, the new intervention buildings reflect the industrial vernacular archetype found around the site. The barracks will remain the primary axis on site, with the new interventions breaking and continuing the current axis. As the site is located in a predominantly Welsh speaking area, the language and culture remains an important factor in the design’s success.
