Inclusive Youth Centre
The youth centre is located at the top of Princes Avenue in Toxteth, Liverpool, directly opposite the church. The youth centre aims to better integrate the vibrancy of the neighbourhood by connecting cultural landmarks and public spaces within the community. It is designed with young people in mind, providing them with a flexible place for leisure activities and inspirational exchanges, and enhancing their sense of belonging to the community.
“Inclusivity” is the key word I have drawn out in this project and has guided my design process conceptually. Although there is already a relatively clear primary beneficiary group: young people, there is still a need to consider the diversity of groups within young people and to try to provide as many functions as possible within a limited space to accommodate the activities of young people of different ages, or to weaken the designer’s definition of the function of the enclosed space during the design process and to leave the choice of activities to the users.
