Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.

ARTICLE 14,
1948 UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

We believe asylum seekers deserve DIGNITY in their new home!

As part of the 1951 UN Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, the UK promised to protect refugees from being returned to countries where they risk being persecuted.

In response to the poor living conditions and lack of support for asylum seekers in the UK, we propose the Asylum Seekers’ Co-operative. It is a more economically viable, humane, socially and mentally supportive accommodation alternative, replicable to all cities across UK.

The Asylum Seekers’ Co-operative consists of a dispersed network of “Living Rooms” in central Croydon as focal points for community engagement, along with the “Accommodation” and community centre “In the Backyard”. It is a semi self-sustaining housing cooperative where asylum seekers voluntarily help maintain daily operations while receiving the educational and social support needed for their future integration.
