How to use

There are three sections that the design guide covers:

Section 1 Quarries: Use this section to aid in how to manage different quarries:

  • During the process of quarrying
  • After the quarry has been used

Section 2: Rationale behind selecting stone for your project

In order of Priority:

  1. Building Typology – Use section 3 of the design guide to determine whether Stone Bricks, Sedimentary or Igneous Stone is suited to your project
  2. Local Character – Determine if there is a stone that is used around the context of the site.
  3. Proximity – Use GIS to determine which quarries are closest in proximity to the site. The video at the bottom of the page shows the process to do this and through contacting stone reform through the Instagram account @stone_reform for the GIS file.
  4. Cost – Only once the above process has been managed, If the above criteria Impacts the cost of the project beyond the budget prioritise stone sources that provide lower cost material.

Section 3: Building typology:

Use this section to determine which building typology your building sits within and the associated details and materials to design with.
