BA3 Studio 5 have just returned from a field trip to Frankfurt / Germany, with a focus on the famous Museumsufer where the project for semester two is set, namely an extension to the Weltkulturen Museum (World Cultures Museum) in the park next to the Museum Angewandte Kunst (Museum of Applied Arts) by Richard Meier.
24 students and 4 members of staff visited the following museums over three days to see how different architects have interpreted the task of providing space for both permanent and temporary collections and exhibitions, and how to engage with the existing urban realm: Deutsches Architekturmuseum; Museum Angewandte Kunst; Weltkulturen Museum; Deutsches Filminstitut und Filmmuseum; Museum für Kommunikation Frankfurt; Städel Museum; Jüdisches Museum Frankfurt; Archäologisches Museum Frankfurt; Historisches Museum Frankfurt; Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt; Museum MMK Für Moderne Kunst.
Despite the rather high step count, there was also time to sample some local food and drink, and for a group of our Chinese students to celebrate Chinese New Year.
We are very much looking forward to seeing how our students will interpret what they have seen, and to a great set of projects this semester.
