HABITAT

An adaptive re-use of a former department store on what was once a prominent high street, HABITAT’s mixed-use scheme of market, food hall and music venue breathes life back into the area. The scheme also considers the improvement of the existing public square and flexible spaces such as recording studios, workspaces and offices internally.

The food hall and terrace bar are situated within the existing concrete facade of the abandoned TJ Hughes department store, with a radical retrofit of the space leading into a concourse space surrounding the central heart of the building, the triple-height space venue.

The concourse space maximises accessibility and circulation around the three main areas and creates a synergy between them, with the day/night uses of the building varying for flexibility and usage for different stakeholders.
