Huyton, you alright?

As an exploration of the sustainable development of the high street in the future, the project challenges the originally closed shops along the street with a kind of blurred boundary building. The high street of the future may need to be more flexible and accessible. This project transforms the previously closed building into a more transparent, open and sustainable community hub. In addition to the new structure, it is important to keep part of the original structure and ensure that people can observe the contrast between the new and the old. At the same time, as a new social node of the community, the building is as public as possible. The most prominent part of the building is the glazed front lobby, the grand staircase at the central hall and rear, three terraces and a grid shell canopy. The glazed lobby provides a visual continuity of space. The grand staircase enhances the interaction between the building and people, while creating a social and activity space. A series of routes connect three terraces to the ground, creating an open-air area for socializing and viewing. Different destinations have also been created for visitors to enhance their interests in visiting. The grid shell created a sense of space and safe, its shadow area becomes the gathering area of people’s subconscious mind. It is more like an extension of High Street or a convergence point of different routes than a building.
