The performing arts in Liverpool is dominated by theatres and concert halls. A crashing asteroid aims to expand Liverpool’s performing arts by introducing Monolith Opera. The opera house combines both theatrical performances and music into one main hub, consolidating the city’s performing arts. Serving not only as a space for performances, the building and its landscape will promote social activity where the public can sit and interact with the building’s surroundings even when there are no shows on.

Serving as a new base for the client, English Opera Tour, opera fans across the country will be drawn to Liverpool, not only benefiting the city, but the North West as a whole.
Due to the site location, it is important that Monolith Opera recognises the historic and cultural
significance of Royal Albert Dock. The building also aims to respectfully pay homage to the Three Graces located directly North, whereby the dock front of visible symbols of Liverpool’s commercial prowess will be continued down the dock. This will play an important role in movement towards regaining the city’s World heritage Status. As well as this, Monolith Opera addresses the issue of two building fronts, welcoming visitors from both the city center, and Red Ramp Energy, a semester one project located on the same site.
